Originally located on Philae Island, the entire complex was carefully relocated to Agilkia Island to rescue it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser following the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The temple is world-renowned for its finely decorated colonnades, pristine wall reliefs, and magical island setting.
The Unfinished Obelisk:
Visit the ancient granite quarries of Aswan to see the Unfinished Obelisk, the largest known ancient obelisk ever attempted. Ordered by Queen Hatshepsut, it offers a fascinating look into ancient Egyptian stone-carving techniques, revealing how giant monuments were carved directly out of solid bedrock before a flaw caused it to be abandoned.
Aswan High Dam:
